How Newport Homeowners Can Remove Invasive Plants

Published on

The Wye and Usk Foundation has released guidance for addressing invasive species affecting local waterways. Louis Macdonald – Ames from the organization produced a video covering methods for dealing with river invaders. The presentation showcased three problematic plants: Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam, and Giant Hogweed. He covered optimal timing and locations for treatment, appropriate removal techniques, relevant environmental protection regulations, and highlighted some of his achievements. A particular source of pride was his Giant Hogweed removal success, captured in the accompanying photograph. He noted that while this dangerous plant is frequently mistaken for its harmless native counterpart, he would prefer receiving a false alarm report over missing an actual Giant Hogweed infestation.
