Gŵyl Newydd is scheduled for Rodney Parade in Newport during 2026, delivering modern Welsh music, entertainment and activities directly into the city centre.
The gathering will operate between 11am and 7pm on Saturday, June 13, with arrangements handled by Menter Iaith Casnewydd.
The festival seeks to position the Welsh language as a central element of urban life.
Dafydd Duggan, who serves as Prif Swyddog for Menter Iaith Casnewydd, explained that the event has evolved into something far more significant than merely an occasion – it represents a declaration that the Welsh language remains vibrant, meaningful and accessible to all. He added that this iteration brings the celebration into the city centre, expanded in scope and ambition while remaining true to its roots.
The complete daytime schedule will include performances from Welsh-language musical acts, presentations by school groups, activities designed for children, hands-on creative sessions, vendors offering food and handmade goods, plus participatory experiences.
The gathering welcomes attendees from all backgrounds, whether they speak the language fluently, are currently learning it, or simply wish to explore Welsh culture.
As enthusiasm for the Welsh language strengthens throughout the area – and with the National Eisteddfod arriving in the region the following year – Gŵyl Newydd is establishing groundwork: a community-focused celebration with ambitions that extend across the nation.
