Unique fundraising hike makes welcome return to South Wales

Published on

A charity walk is set to return to the Gower Peninsula this summer, raising funds for a crucial emergency service.

Wales Air Ambulance’s Walk Wales event enters its seventh year as part of the organisation’s 25th anniversary, with organisers declaring it will be bigger and more accessible than previous editions.

Scheduled for Saturday, June 6, the challenge provides a day out along the Gower coastline, featuring routes appropriate for varying fitness levels.

Gail Windley, events and partnerships fundraiser for Wales Air Ambulance, stated the popular fundraising walk was returning for its seventh edition.

This year’s event is planned to be larger and more inclusive for those taking part.

Walk Wales serves as an excellent fundraising programme that enables people to maintain fitness while supporting the people of Wales.

Participants can accompany Wales Air Ambulance ambassador and former rugby international James Hook on one of three available courses: a 22-mile trek from Rhossili to Langland, a 10-mile route from Oxwich to Langland, or a more modest three-mile path from Caswell to Langland.

The initiative forms part of a broader series of challenges under the Walk Wales banner, providing both physical and virtual participation opportunities to generate vital funding.

The charity requires £13 million each year to maintain operation of its helicopters and rapid response vehicles.

Ms Windley added that ambassador James Hook would be returning to support the event once again.

The fundraiser appeals to all age groups and offers supporters a great way to mark the 25th anniversary.

Those wishing to contribute to saving lives across Wales should lace up their walking boots and take part in Walk Wales for an excellent cause.

It is an event not to be missed.

Registration for Walk Wales 2026 is available online at https://walk-wales.walesairambulance.com.

Transport for Wales will provide transportation from the finish line to Oxwich and Rhossili.
