Newport Labour’s road scheme under fire for missing information

Published on

A review of the Welsh Labour publication shows claims that the party has provided new road infrastructure. The M4 relief road scheme for Newport goes unmentioned.

More than £120million was set aside for initial preparatory work on this project, yet it was abandoned during Mark Drakeford’s tenure – a decision that constitutes a major shortcomings.

The document points to the completion of the A465 Heads Of The Valley road.

Notably missing are figures concerning budget excess, timeline, or correct data about the scheme.

A large portion of funding derived from European Union sources, with Wales obligated to repayments spanning the next twenty-five years through deals with the construction companies involved.

More than £50million was spent on the 20mph speed limit initiative. Many roads have since reverted to 30mph limits. The cause? Appropriate preparatory work was clearly not carried out.

Another setback for Mark Drakeford.

This is merely the transport sphere. Labour labels this delivery, while others see it as misuse of public funds.

The NHS is in crisis. It performs the worst among the devolved administrations.

Eluned Morgan, First Minister, bore responsibility for Wrexham Hospital during its time under special measures.

Her rise to First Minister happened without an election – she was chosen unopposed after negotiating with her only challenger, whom she offered a senior role in return for stepping aside.

This provides just a glimpse of weak governance. Despite this, Labour takes pride in their record exceeding twenty-five years in government.

This is a record that warrants scrutiny and public explanation.
