A centuries-old religious building that has provided spiritual services to local residents throughout its existence has been placed on the auction market.
The Calvinist Methodist Bethel Chapel situated in New Tredegar, Gwent, which dates back to 1860, carries a minimum price of only £7,000 and is being presented by Paul Fosh Auctions.
Sean Roper, speaking on behalf of the Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions, explained that the former place of worship retains numerous genuine historical features throughout its interior.
He noted that the structure appears almost entirely as it did when the final worshippers and minister last departed this distinctive building.
The chapel occupies a central location within the village of New Tredegar, a district rich in historical significance.
The noteworthy building commands impressive panoramas of the local landscape and sits close to shopping areas and other amenities.
This attractive church contains many characteristics that would benefit any planned renovation project, including the preacher’s elevated balcony and the multiple rows of varnished wooden bench seating.
The auction presents a creative individual with an outstanding opportunity to potentially adapt the premises for residential or community use, subject to obtaining necessary planning consents.
The property has preserved much of its initial appearance, including the seating arrangements and colourful gallery balustrades.
Located on Ruperra Street in New Tredegar, the chapel is being sold without any occupants.
The sale will take place online through Paul Fosh Auctions, commencing at noon on Tuesday, May 19, and wrapping up from 2pm on Thursday, May 21.
A further selection of 100 varied properties will likewise feature in this digital auction.
