A weekly craft gathering in South Wales is transforming lives and fostering connections among local residents.
The Grangetown Salvation Army’s Knit, Crochet and Natter Café operates from Cardiff and has developed into a welcoming environment, attracting over twenty consistent participants.
Sessions take place each Monday between 11am and 1pm in the community space located within the Asda store in Cardiff Bay.
Anne Smith coordinates the meetings and stated that the group is open to all individuals seeking companionship in the neighbourhood. She emphasised that the initiative focuses on building friendships and has created significant positive change for those involved.
The programme’s achievements prompted the introduction of a Thursday evening gathering at the Grangetown Salvation Army Hall, providing greater flexibility for people unable to attend daytime activities.
Beyond offering social support to members, the initiative also benefits the broader community. Volunteers produce headwear for infants born prematurely, fashion remembrance poppies for the Royal British Legion, and collaborate with The Royal Marines Charity to create blanket squares for former service personnel or veterans receiving hospital treatment.
Hilary Mitchell, who participates in the group, observed that Anne has united local residents. She noted that members have formed strong friendships and the collective has flourished under her direction.
