Cases at Newport as Accused Face Local Judiciary

Recent magistrates’ court hearings have concluded with a number of individuals receiving various penalties.

Michelle Hamblen, 55, of Tennyson Avenue, Llanwern, Newport accepted responsibility for travelling faster than the permitted speed in a 50mph zone. She was directed to pay £232 covering fine, costs and surcharge. Four penalty points were recorded on her driving licence.

Luke Shellam, residing at Monnow Way, Bettws, Newport, received a £408 fine for keeping a motor vehicle without appropriate insurance.

Keenan Davies, 23, from Somerset Street, Abertillery was handed a four-month prison term, suspended for a year, after pleading guilty to possessing a Rambo knife on the A467 in Abercarn on April 8. He was also ordered to pay £154 in victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Michael Tottle, 33, of Llandegfedd Way, New Inn, Pontypool had his driving licence disqualified for 12 months after admitting to driving whilst under the influence of drugs on the A4042 on November 2, 2025. He must pay £197 consisting of fine, costs and surcharge.

Muhammad Akhtar, 22, from Corporation Road, Newport entered a guilty plea to exceeding the speed limit in a 20mph zone. He was issued a fine, costs and surcharge totalling £435, with six penalty points added to his licence.

Paul John Henderson, 51, of Woodland View, Caldicot acknowledged keeping a vehicle without road tax. The penalty amounts to £532.67 including fine, costs and back duty owed.

Zoe Evans, 44, from Maes Y Twr, Portskewett, near Caldicot was convicted of travelling above the speed limit in a 40mph zone. She must pay £176 comprising fine, costs and surcharge, with three penalty points endorsed on her licence.

Linsey Rosser, living at New William Street, Blaenavon was fined £408 for possessing an uninsured motor vehicle.

Mathew Price, of Albion Road, Pontypool was ordered to pay a £220 fine plus £86.25 in back duty and £85 costs for operating a vehicle without valid road tax.
