Motorists travelling through Gwent can anticipate open routes with no total shutdowns over the coming bank holiday weekend.
The M4, M48 and principal A-roads serving Newport, Cwmbran and Ebbw Vale will not be subject to continuous closures spanning the entire weekend.
The timeframe in question runs from 10am on Saturday, May 2 through to 9pm on Monday, May 4.
No complete shutdowns are expected on the M4 stretch between Magor (junction 23A) and Newport (junction 26) during these dates.
Similarly, the M48 Severn Bridge and the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge will remain operational without weekend-long closures.
Current restrictions persist, including the weight limitation on the M48 and the possibility of sudden closures prompted by strong winds or significant incidents.
On the non-motorway network, major A-roads such as the A4042, A449, A48, A465, A472 and A4051 are not subject to area-wide closures.
These highways link several of Gwent’s most active urban centres and transportation routes.
Improvement projects and upkeep activities remain active on multiple of these routes.
Such works will be handled through staggered lane restrictions, nighttime limitations and portable signalling equipment.
Authorities have confirmed that no extensive multi-day blockades are scheduled for the bank holiday period.
Night-time closures affecting the A472 and additional roads fall outside the relevant dates.
Nevertheless, drivers are being encouraged to make preparations in advance and anticipate possible interference.
Travellers may encounter lane and junction closures, lowered speed restrictions, temporary signals or unforeseen incidents.
Motorists should consult up-to-date guidance prior to setting off.
Current information can be obtained from Traffic Wales, National Highways and local authority roadwork portals.
This recommendation applies particularly to those driving through the night or undertaking extended trips across South Wales and the Severn crossings.
Although overnight works scheduled earlier will be finished before the weekend, drivers should stay alert for last-minute amendments or emergency situations.
Officials emphasise that advance planning will help prevent hold-ups and contribute to a more seamless journey during the busy bank holiday weekend.
