Welsh construction company receives prestigious industry recognition

A building company has received accolades for outstanding performance at a national ceremony.

Welsh contractor Wynne Construction secured a pair of bronze accolades at the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) Awards 2026, which took place at the Kimpton Clock Tower Hotel in Manchester.

The recognition was granted for its Sunnyside Wellness Village development in Bridgend and the Pontllanfraith Centre for Skills and Learning in Blackwood, with both initiatives earning ‘Excellent’ classifications and full marks during impartial inspections.

Steven Kemp, who oversaw both projects, commented that the firm consistently aims to operate considerately, so earning two bronze commendations from the CCS represents a tremendous achievement.

He explained that the company’s workforce and environmental policies are implemented across every site, with staff welfare, environmental stewardship, and community engagement contributing to the recognition received for these two developments.

The firm was particularly pleased that the assessments following the inspections confirmed it is meeting its objectives.

The CCS evaluates building sites against several important standards, with 45 points available as the highest possible total, and seeks to improve sector performance by encouraging exemplary practices.

Wynne Construction’s achievements demonstrate its focus on operating well-managed sites and contributing positively to local areas.

The Sunnyside Wellness Village, a £25 million development featuring a medical facility and 59 residences, provided numerous advantages for the surrounding community.

The firm fitted a replacement roof on an open-air learning area at Penybont Primary School in Bridgend and supplied internship opportunities for teenagers.

It also collaborated with Itec Training Solutions Ltd to assist those aged 16 to 19 through the Welsh Government’s Jobs Growth Wales+ initiative.

At the Pontllanfraith Centre for Skills and Learning, Wynne partnered with Coleg y Cymoedd to give pupils practical exposure to craft trades including joinery, plastering, and electrical installation.

Wynne Construction is currently marking its centenary year of trading.
