On the first day of May 2006, the South Wales Argus covered a group of parents and young people who completed a six-mile trek to assist youngsters in Romania.
The participants took pleasure in walking under clear skies while raising money for Every Child Romania, an organisation dedicated to supporting vulnerable children overseas.
Based in Blackwood, the group sought to aid Romanian youngsters impacted by HIV and Aids, a condition resulting from the country’s previous policy requiring compulsory blood transfusions for newborn babies.
Carol Rowlands, representing the charity, described the occasion as having gone extremely well.
She continued by noting that approximately fifty individuals took part, covering three miles from Cross Keys to the Ynysddu Hotel before returning the same distance.
Ms Rowlands observed that walkers thoroughly appreciated the pleasant outing, adding that such a successful event had prompted plans to hold it again each year.
The final sum collected remained unclear at that stage as donations were still being received.
