A road safety initiative was launched to address worries over fast driving and hazardous behaviour on roads in Abersychan and Garndiffaith.

Local police joined forces with the Casualty Reduction Team to focus on specific trouble spots.

Altogether, 260 cars were observed throughout the initiative.

Twenty-seven motorists attended speed awareness sessions while three took part in seat belt awareness training.

One motorist faced action for using a handheld phone while driving.

A representative from Gwent Police stated that additional initiatives would be arranged at various locations to make drivers aware of the dangers associated with the Fatal 5 Road Safety Wales campaign.

The Fatal 5 is a Road Safety Wales awareness drive highlighting the five primary causes of road accidents and casualties throughout Wales.

These encompass: driving under the influence of drink or drugs; excessive speed; inconsiderate driving; failing to wear a seatbelt; and operating a mobile phone while at the wheel.
