Driver disqualified after record drink-drive reading

A driver has been prohibited from operating vehicles after being detected exceeding the alcohol threshold while travelling along the B4598 near Abergavenny, with readings surpassing double the permitted amount.

Jones, who was operating a Ford Transit, appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court and admitted guilt. His breath analysis revealed 78 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The maximum permitted level in Wales stands at 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

The court was informed the incident took place on April 10.

The 36-year-old from Tennyson Road, Penarth received a 19-month driving ban.

He was also instructed to pay £253 comprising a financial penalty, court expenses and an additional charge.
