Risca East Community Council will have a new chair for the upcoming year.
Brandon Ham was elected as the new chairperson without opposition at the annual general meeting of Risca East Community Council.
The gathering took place on Friday 10th April at 5pm at the Channel View Community Centre in Risca.
Those present included councillors Zoe Davies, Christine Thomas, Philippa Leonard, Brandon Ham, Arrianna Leonard, and Roger Smith.
Nigel George and Vim Goraniya submitted their apologies for absence.
Following a ballot, Arrianna Leonard was elected as vice chairperson, securing four votes while Zoe Davies received one.
The minutes from the previous meeting were confirmed as accurate.
The committee currently has no vacant positions.
Christine Thomas and Zoe Davies were chosen to serve as the council’s representatives on the Caerphilly County Borough Council Town and Community Councils Joint Liaison Committee.
Bernadette Martin and Chris Thomas were elected to the Risca Town Centre Management Committee.
All council members will participate in the Events Committee.
Members unanimously approved that chairperson Brandon Ham would receive a £400 allowance for 2026/27 in accordance with the Local Government Act 1972.
Ham disclosed that £100 of this amount would be donated to charity.
The allowance for all other councillors was set at £150.
Payments were issued for the chairperson’s allowance, the chairperson’s charitable donation, and councillor allowances.
