A 38-year-old woman is facing charges over a collision that left a cyclist seriously hurt through careless driving.

Stacie Howells allegedly struck the complainant on Commercial Road in Newport’s Pill district during the evening of Tuesday, March 18 last year while operating a Nissan Qashqai.

She also faces allegations of perverting the course of justice by supplying police with incorrect identity information between March 18, 2025 and October 24, 2025.

The accused, from Marion Place in Newport, made no pleas at her appearance before the city’s magistrates’ court.

District Judge Sophie Toms ordered Howells’ matter be transferred to the crown court for May 22.

Bail was granted to the defendant on unconditional terms.
