Police bring motorcycle simulator to Newport after crash spike

Published on

A road safety program targeting scooter and motorcycle riders was presented by officers at Coleg Gwent in Newport.

The outreach effort, designed for moped and motorbike users, was launched following 52 incidents of fatal or serious injuries affecting motorcyclists across the Gwent area during the period from April to August in the previous year.

Members of the Roads Policing and Specialist Operations team demonstrated a motorcycle simulation device to teach students about proper road positioning and sound judgment while riding.

The Vision Zero South West motorcycle simulation equipment serves as an educational resource enabling Gwent Police to offer hands-on guidance and expertise aimed at improving safety for all road users.

Data showed that May of the previous year experienced the peak numbers, with Saturdays recording the highest frequency of motorcycle-related collisions.

This road safety initiative forms part of an ongoing effort to lower those statistics.
