A creative initiative combining artistic expression with humanitarian effort aims to address worldwide hardship.
A showcase of artworks and handmade items will take place at Van Road United Reformed Church in Caerphilly between Tuesday May 12 and Saturday May 16, coinciding with Christian Aid Week.
A Bedwas-based artistic collective in Caerphilly is behind the event, which has been revived following a triumphant return last year.
Organising committee member Diane Moverley explained that several years ago, church congregation members Mair and John Wade established an annual creative showcase for neighbourhood makers. The programme operated under the Van-guard Centre at Van Road Church and achieved considerable popularity until the health crisis interrupted proceedings. The collective relaunched the exhibition twelve months ago and it garnered positive feedback, with several contributors successfully selling their creations. The timing aligned with Christian Aid Week, making it an ideal opportunity to utilise the event for charitable fundraising purposes.
Contributors may present as many as three framed works, each requiring a two-pound submission charge. Pieces will be received on Friday May 8 between 1.30pm and 5pm.
All proceeds will support Christian Aid’s initiatives assisting marginalised populations across the globe.
This year’s Christian Aid Week campaign spotlights Nairobi in Kenya, where numerous households endure severe deprivation and find it difficult to afford sustenance, schooling, and fundamental services.
Attendance is complimentary, with a collection receptacle positioned for those wishing to offer financial support.
Moverley expressed enthusiasm for further contributions, noting that every penny collected would support Christian Aid’s collaboration with overseas partner organisations. Additional details about the exhibition and Christian Aid’s international operations are available on the Christian Aid website.
