More than one hundred volunteers were honoured for their outstanding service to the scouting movement, including members from Gwent and Cardiff and Vale scout groups throughout Wales.
The updated Scouts Roll of Honour recognised volunteers from across Wales for their dedication to helping young people and their local communities.
Many award winners attended the annual Day of Celebration and Achievement held at Windsor Castle on April 26, where honourees from throughout the United Kingdom gathered to receive their accolades.
Jon Williams, chief volunteer for Wales at ScoutsCymru, said the awards demonstrated the remarkable commitment of volunteers across Wales. He noted they regularly give their time to help young people build confidence, learn essential skills, and feel a sense of belonging. He expressed pride in everyone included in this year’s Roll of Honour and gratitude for their contributions to scouting in Wales.
The event also featured young people from Wales who formed part of the colour party leading the procession, emphasising the joint efforts of both volunteers and youth members.
ScoutsCymru supports nearly 14,000 young individuals aged four to 25 each week, with assistance from more than 4,600 volunteers who deliver safe, inclusive experiences that transform lives.
The honours ranged from the Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service to the Silver Wolf, awarded for service of an exceptional standard. The roll also included recognition for meritorious conduct, acts of gallantry, and other displays of commitment and bravery.
David James from Aberdare, who received a British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours for services to young people, was among those celebrated.
Mr Williams remarked that from those beginning their volunteering journey to those receiving some of scouting’s most prestigious awards for numerous years of service, each recognition signifies a lasting impact on young people and communities.
The accolades reflect countless hours of voluntary work, often given over extended periods, enabling young individuals to develop self-assurance, acquire life skills, and contribute to their communities. ScoutsCymru’s structure relies on local volunteers supported by a national framework that maintains safeguarding standards, training, and programme quality. This volunteer network makes scouting activities possible across every one of Wales’ 22 local authorities.
