Paramedics and other emergency crews were called out after concerns were raised about three people who were inside a car in the Rhymney Valley district on Sunday morning, April 19.
Gwent officers were alerted around 10:45am regarding the wellbeing of three individuals in a vehicle parked close to Margaret Street in Gilfach. Police arrived alongside teams from the Welsh Ambulance Service, Wales Air Ambulance, and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
A 36-year-old woman and two boys, aged nine and 16, were taken to hospital for medical attention.
According to a police statement, the adult woman and the younger boy are still being treated in a serious condition. The elder child’s condition has improved and is now described as stable. Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said emergency responders were dispatched following welfare concerns for three people inside a vehicle on Margaret Street in Gilfach at approximately 10:45am on April 19. Crews from the Welsh Ambulance Service, Welsh Air Ambulance, and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene. A 36-year-old woman and two male children aged nine and 16 were treated by medics before being conveyed to hospital. The woman and nine-year-old remain in a critical condition, while the 16-year-old’s condition has since stabilised. Enquiries are ongoing.
Wales Air Ambulance confirmed that two helicopters were sent to the scene, with crews from the charity’s Dafen and Cardiff bases tasked at 11:00am. The first team arrived at the location at 11:20am, and the operational deployment concluded at 2:03pm.
