A major road providing access to Ebbw Vale became blocked following a van blaze on the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road on Wednesday.

The incident caused disruption for drivers, with traffic lanes obstructed and the slip road towards Ebbw Vale shut down as fire crews attended the scene.

Traffic built up in the vicinity as motorists were told to bypass the route and find alternative ways through.

An emergency services spokesperson confirmed that they received reports of a van fire, and that one lane stays closed while two are now open to traffic.

The spokesperson added that the A465 junction for Ebbw Vale remains shut, and that this could result in journey disruptions. The spokesperson advised people to stay away from the area and consider other options.

Happily, no injuries were recorded.

The carriageway has since fully reopened, with traffic flow returning to usual conditions.
