Traffic disruptions are being reported on the M48 Severn Bridge following a collision on the crossing.

Both directions remain shut while emergency services tackle the incident, resulting in considerable delays for drivers in the area.

The situation continues to develop and updates will follow.

Paramedics have been sent to the M48 Severn Bridge following the accident.

Westbound travel between junction one at A403 near Aust and junction two at the A466 Wye Valley Link Road near Chepstow is taking approximately seven minutes and this figure is rising.

Average vehicle speed has dropped to around 15 miles per hour.

Westbound traffic on the M48 Severn Bridge between Aust and Chepstow has been rendered inaccessible following a crash. Emergency personnel are at the scene. A backlog of half an hour is forming on the approach. Drivers are advised to use the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge if possible while updates continue.

The M4 is also experiencing queuing due to the collision on the M48 Severn Bridge.

Significant delays of 16 minutes are building on the westbound M48 between the M4 junction 21 and junction two at the A466 Wye Valley Link Road near Chepstow.

Traffic is moving at approximately ten miles per hour.

The Southwestern Ambulance Service has revealed that extra resources have been despatched to the crash location.

A spokesperson for the Southwestern Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust explained that they were alerted at 14:26 on Monday 27 April regarding a road traffic collision in the Chepstow area.

They sent a crew of two in an ambulance along with a hazardous area response team to the scene and conveyed one casualty by ambulance to Southmead Hospital.

A National Highways representative said they were informed of the road traffic collision at approximately 2.15pm on the westbound stretch between junctions one and two.

The second lane was blocked because of the incident which scattered wreckage across the road and caused damage to the central reservation barrier.

The vehicle was removed and the route became passable again by 3.45pm.
