A property in Newport has been cordoned off by officials following persistent complaints about disruptive conduct linked to the dwelling.
Gwent Police teamed up with housing provider United Welsh to secure a three-month closure order for the flat situated on Lysaght Way in the Lliswerry area, after neighbours reported feeling unable to reside comfortably in their own homes.
The existing occupants have been required to depart and arrange alternative accommodation.
Newport Magistrates’ Court granted the order on Wednesday, April 22. Throughout the three-month duration, any person attempting to gain entry to the premises will be committing a criminal offence and faces the possibility of being detained.
PC Leanne Pole, who serves as a crime and disorder reduction officer within the Newport neighbourhood policing unit, explained that the action was triggered by grievances from nearby householders.
She indicated that officers were alerted to instances of anti-social behaviour and disturbance at this address, with local people feeling they could not live in peace and comfort.
She stated that this closure order reflects the result of officers working together with United Welsh to tackle matters raised by residents who have been impacted by this problematic behaviour.
She thanked those community members who supplied information and the evidence needed to secure the order.
She added that they hope this closure order reassures residents throughout Lliswerry and nearby areas that they listen to worries and are committed to partnering to tackle anti-social behaviour and safeguard neighbourhoods.
Sian Weeks, neighbourhood manager at United Welsh, mentioned that staff from its neighbourhood and neighbourhood safety departments put in considerable effort alongside officers and residents to achieve what she described as a positive result.
She remarked that all individuals should be able to enjoy their homes without suffering the distress that anti-social behaviour brings.
She anticipated that this closure order provides comfort to those living nearby and the broader community on Lysaght Way. She stated that United Welsh will carry on collaborating with partner agencies to address anti-social behaviour in neighbourhoods and urged United Welsh residents to raise any issues with them or the police.
Officials are urging members of the public who have worries about anti-social behaviour or criminal activity in their area to make contact by calling 101, visiting the internet reporting platform, or reaching Gwent Police through Facebook or X. For urgent situations, people should dial 999.
