A healthcare provider born from personal tragedy has grown into a nurse-led organisation serving communities across England and Wales.
Seren Healthcare marks six years of operation this year, founded by Welsh nurse Stellah Mensah following her mother’s death caused by medical negligence.
The company will commemorate this milestone with a celebration at the Celtic Manor Resort on May 15, 2026. The event will include the graduation of its second cohort of care leaders, the launch of a Franchise Network, and the establishment of a charitable foundation focused on prostate cancer awareness in South Wales and the West of England.
Ms Mensah, based in Newport, explained that Seren originated from a pledge she made during an extraordinarily difficult time.
The death of her mother revealed to her how devastating systemic failures can be for families.
She aimed to create a company where patients experience authentic care and where healthcare workers receive meaningful support and acknowledgment.
The celebration will see the graduation of Seren Healthcare’s second group of care leaders. These professionals started their careers in direct patient-facing roles before progressing into supervisory positions through the company’s internal training academy.
The occasion will also introduce the Seren Franchise Network, allowing independent organisations to deliver nurse-led care services under the Seren name throughout the United Kingdom.
The company currently provides domiciliary care, complex care, supported living, live-in care, and private care services across England and Wales.
All services operate through a structure prioritising clinical leadership and employee development.
The gala will mark the launch of the Seren Healthcare Foundation and its inaugural campaign, targeting the promotion of early prostate cancer screening in underserved regions of South Wales and the West of England.
The initiative carries special meaning for Ms Mensah, whose father has been fighting prostate cancer for several years.
She noted that if guests depart having had at least one substantive conversation about screening, the event will have achieved genuine progress in saving lives.
Health awareness is not abstract.
It involves fathers, brothers, partners and families.
It involves my father.
The foundation’s opening campaign will run from May through December 2026.
Seren Healthcare’s long-term ambition is to become one of the United Kingdom’s leading nurse-led care providers.
The gala will bring together health and community figures including Dame Professor Meena Upadhayaya, Professor Uzo Iwobi, Councillor Laura Lacey, and the mayor, Councillor Kate Thomas.
