A 29-year-old man from Caerphilly has received a prison sentence after being convicted of strangling and exerting control over his former partner.

A jury at trial found Aiden Jones guilty of intentionally strangling the woman, who is now his ex-girlfriend.

The defendant, residing at Maes Y Graig Street in Gilfach, had maintained his innocence throughout proceedings.

He admitted to charges of engaging in controlling and coercive behavior.

At Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Eugene Egan imposed a two-year custodial sentence.

Jones was also issued a five-year restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victim.

The offenses occurred during 2023.

He will be required to pay a victim surcharge upon his release from custody.
