Traffic disruption on M4 following multi-vehicle collision near Magor
A crash near Magor caused significant tailbacks on the M4 motorway in the Newport area today.
Initial reports indicated severe delays of 33 minutes on the eastbound carriageway between junction 24 at Coldra and junction 23 near the M48 interchange. Vehicles were travelling at approximately five miles per hour through the affected area.
Emergency services attended the scene. Gwent Police were contacted for further details, while South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that no fire appliances were dispatched.
As the morning progressed, conditions gradually improved. Delays on the same stretch of the M4 eastbound reduced to around 20 minutes, with average speeds increasing to ten miles per hour. A separate twelve-minute delay was also reported between junction 26 at Malpas Road and junction 24 at Coldra.
Traffic Wales had earlier warned of significant congestion in the vicinity.
Gwent Police later confirmed that the incident involved a seven-vehicle collision described as bumper-to-bumper in nature. Officers stated that no injuries were sustained as a result of the crash.
Traffic returned to normal flow following the clearance of the scene.
