Newport’s beloved attraction comeback slated for spring 2026

The water play area at Tredegar Park in Newport is getting ready to open its doors again for another year, though the precise day remains unconfirmed.

Splash ‘Port is scheduled to return in May, offering youngsters of all ages a chance to enjoy water-based activities throughout the summer months.

The venue, which is free to use and operated by Newport City Council, boasts 26 interactive water elements, comprising jets, sprayers, and an enormous dumping bucket.

The local authority has yet to specify the exact opening date.

The facility was built with accessibility as a priority, featuring even ground surfaces and unobstructed views, accommodating pushchairs, wheelchairs, and children’s scooters.

It represents a key component of Newport City Council’s broader commitment to public play amenities and has established itself as a popular destination for families during the summer period.

The adjacent parkland provides additional entertainment options, including play zones, a mini-golf course, a skate park, sports fields, and open lawn areas suitable for picnics and social gatherings.

In a social media announcement marking the 2025 season’s closure on September 7, the council stated the splash pad would resume operations in spring 2026.

After receiving questions from local residents, a subsequent statement clarified that the attraction would reopen in May, with a firm date to be released as the time approaches.

The council has advised those who enjoy the facility to monitor its website and social media platforms for the latest information before planning a trip.

Historically, Splash ‘Port has welcomed visitors in time for the Easter break and remained open daily throughout the summer, weather permitting.

Standard operating times have generally begun in the late morning and continued until the early evening, although sessions may be reduced or cancelled for maintenance work or adverse weather conditions.

Tredegar Park itself remains accessible from dawn until dusk, and many visitors opt to pair a trip to the splash pad with a visit to Tredegar House, its grounds, or the neighbouring playground.

The upcoming season’s opening follows recent enhancements to the park, encompassing pathway improvements, landscaping updates, and new play equipment.

The council has confirmed the splash pad will reopen in May and has committed to publishing the complete schedule as soon as it becomes available.
