Educational institutions throughout Britain are being encouraged to join a nationwide play campaign coinciding with the United Nations International Day of Play.
The Play 31 Challenge, introduced by the UK Children’s Play Policy Forum, prompts schools to allocate an additional 31 minutes of playtime on June 11 to honor children’s entitlement to play as outlined in Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Mike Greenaway, director of Play Wales, stated: “Children’s play has never been more important than it is today.
“The International Day of Play provides us with an opportunity to celebrate play across the world.
“In Wales, it will be a school day and it will provide an opportunity to highlight the importance of children’s play to their enjoyment of learning.”
The campaign focuses on the message protect play, protect childhood, with suggested activities including lengthening recess periods, promoting playful learning outdoors, or constructing a large numeral ’31’ using play materials.
An additional retail development is slated for a tranquil South Wales community of fewer than 800 inhabitants, the hometown of Matt Tebbutt.
The initiative stems from the understanding that play is fundamental to a joyful and healthy childhood, emphasizing how schools can aid children’s growth through playful activities.
Marguerite Hunter Blair, chair of the UK Children’s Play Policy Forum, commented: “We are calling on schools to take on the Play 31 Challenge and make more time for play.
“At a time when children’s access to play is increasingly restricted, school environments can provide a range of rich play experiences which contribute to children’s improved health, happiness and life chances.
“And everyone can have some FUN!
