Rush-hour collision blocks M4 lane near Newport

Published on

Gwent Police received a call just prior to 8pm regarding a two-vehicle collision. No one was hurt.

Commuters experienced delays during evening rush hour on the M4 in the Newport area due to an accident located between junction 27 High Cross and junction 26 Malpas.

Significant traffic buildup began appearing just after 5.20pm on Tuesday, April 21, with vehicles moving slowly in both directions along the eastbound lanes. All lanes stayed open.

Traffic monitoring systems and real-time maps indicated wait times of approximately 15 minutes during the busiest part of the evening commute as vehicles traveled past the location. Traffic began returning to normal levels after 6.30pm, with the backlog nearly gone by just after 7pm when regular driving conditions returned.

The situation was resolved later that evening after the motorway was completely clear and the disruption came to an end.
