A serial shoplifters has been handed a prison term and exclusion from multiple retail outlets and a fuel station in Monmouth after receiving a two-year criminal behaviour order.
Thirty-year-old Ryan Price, who resides in Monmouth, was given an eight-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to thirteen shoplifting offences at Newport Magistrates’ Court on 20 April, according to Gwent Police.
The terms of the order prevent him from accessing Co-op, Marks & Spencer, Iceland, Overmonnow Garage and Waitrose within the town until 20 April 2028.
The specific conditions require that Price must not visit or enter the Co-op on Rockfield Road, Marks & Spencer on Monnow Street, Overmonnow Garage on Cinderhill Street, or Iceland in Agincourt Square.
Officers from the Monmouthshire neighbourhood policing unit obtained the order in collaboration with partner agencies following complaints from businesses about ongoing theft problems.
PC Tom Evans, the Crime and Disorder Reduction Officer, stated that the case demonstrates shoplifting affects real victims, with repeat offences significantly affecting traders, employees and the local community.
He explained that Price’s lifestyle choices have contributed to his criminal conduct, and the sentence and order would be well received by affected businesses.
The criminal behaviour order remains in effect until 20 April 2028. Should Price violate any of its conditions, he would be committing a criminal offence and risks arrest, with potential penalties including fines, imprisonment or both.
Anyone who observes him entering the prohibited premises is urged to get in touch with Gwent Police through the force website, by telephoning 101, or via Facebook or X direct messaging so officers can respond accordingly.
