Gwent braced for week-long sunshine with 20C temperatures

Published on

A period of unusual spring warmth is predicted for Gwent, with meteorologists expecting approximately a week of dry, calm weather and afternoon temperatures approaching 20°C.

The Met Office’s latest forecast for Newport shows the thermometer climbing to 18°C on Wednesday before reaching 20°C on both Thursday and Friday, with similar conditions expected throughout the weekend.

A large area of high pressure will build over the area, bringing prolonged sunshine and patchy cloud across much of south-east Wales.

Although daytime periods will feel comfortable in direct sunshine, especially in locations sheltered from wind, night-time hours may stay chilly as clear skies allow temperatures to drop to single figures with a chance of slight frost in countryside locations.

An easterly breeze is set to keep temperatures down on windswept hillsides and higher ground.

The outlook suggests this settled weather pattern will continue for several days, offering ideal conditions for visitors to parks, coastal areas or community events planned over the coming days, though ultraviolet radiation will progressively strengthen as May draws near.

Drivers are being advised to watch out for brightness during the early hours, and those arranging lengthy outdoor pursuits should remember to use fundamental sun protection, even when temperatures stay modest in windy conditions.
