Good morning. The sun is shining and ABP Newport Wales Marathon is underway. There are several road closures around the city centre so follow along for updates, photos and more!
Residents have been warned to expect severe disruption and to check timings carefully before travelling.
Full road closures include:
Usk Way, closed from 3am to 7pm.
The athlete village, near Kingsway, closed from 8.30am and reopening around 10.30am.
The A48 westbound, closed from 7.30am to 11.15am.
Newport Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre, closed from 7.30am to 3.30pm (first runner expected at 9.04am).
Stephenson Street, closed from 8.40am to 3pm (first runner expected at 9.55am).
Traston Road, closed from 7.30am to 2.45pm (first runner expected at 9.57am).
Nash Road, closed from 8.30am to 2.30pm (first runner expected at 9.19am).
Nash Estate and RSPB Wetlands, closed from 9am to 12.30pm.
Nash Road onto Straites Lane and Broad Street Common, closed from 9am to 2.20pm (first runner expected at 9.21am).
Goldcliff Road, closed from 9am to 2pm (first runner expected at 9.29am).
Whitson Common Road, closed from 9am to 2pm (first runner expected at 9.35am).
Parish Reen onto Bowleaze Reen and North Row, closed from 9am to 1.10pm (first runner expected at 9.35am).
North Row Estate, closed from 9am to 11.45am (first runner expected at 9.50am).
Other areas around Newport are going to have managed access or restricted entry while the marathon is underway.
East Docks Estate will allow managed resident and business entry and exit from 7.30am to 3.30pm, while the Lysaght Estate will have managed resident exit between 12.30pm and 3pm.
The A48 eastbound will be access-only from 7.30am to 11.15am.
The Traston Road Estate will allow managed entry and exit from 8.40am to 10.15am and again from 10.15am to 2.45pm.
Limited access will also be provided at Nash Estate and the RSPB Wetlands via Meadow Road between 12.30pm and 2.20pm.

If you are planning to drive into Newport today, please note the carparks at Emlyn Street, the Riverfront and Friars Walk will be closed for the duration of the event.
All other city centre car parks, including the Kingsway Car Park will be fully accessible from 10.30am.

If you have pre-booked the park and ride service today, due to unforeseen circumstances, people are being advised not to head to Catsash Road as planned.
Drivers are being asked to follow the official yellow and black event park & ride signs after exiting the M4 at Junction 24.
More than 10,000 runners have signed up for today, taking part in a number of races including a marathon, half marathon, 10k and junior races.
If you’re heading out to watch the marathon today, make sure you’ve downloaded The Run 4 Wales app, available for both iOS and Android devices.
You’ll be able to follow along with any of your loved ones who are taking part thanks to the live participant tracking option and it also offers full Google Maps functionality and a detailed look at the course.

Good morning, if you’re just joining our live blog, the ABP Newport Wales Marathon is well underway. There are several road closures in place and drivers are being told to expect severe disruption.

We’ve had reports of runners starting to cross the finish line! Bridgend AC’s Jacob Tasker has been named the 2026 ABP Newport Marathon winner with a fantastic time of 2 hours 21 minutes.
Bideford AC’s Samantha Antell has also taken the Newport Marathon title with a lifetime best of 2 hours 43 minutes. There are lots of spectators at the finish line waiting to cheer on the runners.
Dafydd Jones is the 10k men’s winner, completing the course in under half an hour, with a time of 29 minutes 25 seconds.
Donna Morris is the 10k female winner with a speedy time of 35 minutes 44 seconds.
Owain Terrell came first in the elite wheelchair ABP Newport Half.
It was exceptionally close at the finish line of the half marathon with Adam Bowden taking the win and completing the course in just one hour nine minutes! Joe Redman came in second.
Natasha Wilson is the female winner of the ABP Newport Half Marathon, getting round the course in a speedy one hour 11 seconds.

There are still several road closures in place.
The roads around Pye Corner have also reopened.
Several roads around Newport have now re-opened but others will still be closed for a few hours, including Usk Way which is scheduled to be shut until 7pm this evening.
