City centre establishment shuts doors following overnight raid

A business in Newport was forced to shut its doors for the day after thieves struck in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 19.

Barcode encountered an unforeseen shutdown following a break-in by three suspects who battered down both entry points and escaped with goods earmarked for the weekend trade.

Staff from the venue posted online stating that three unwelcome visitors entered during the early hours, leading to today’s closure.

They indicated that surveillance footage would be shared soon.

They noted they were contacting all patrons who had bookings and expressed sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

They described the incident as highly frustrating, with both access points sustaining extensive damage. They said they would be unable to conduct business until repairs were completed. They expressed hope that operations could resume Wednesday evening.

They emphasized that the stolen items were merely a handful of bottles of alcohol, a loss they described as significant for a small independent venue. They pointed out that Sunday trading revenue is vital for such businesses and that the impact would be tangible.

They concluded their post by thanking customers for their patience and support during this difficult time.
