A manager at a care home has been presented with a special award recognising her leadership skills.

Verity oversees Gibraltar Nursing Home in Monmouthshire. Her coworkers selected her for the Star of the Month prize after the home achieved excellent results throughout its latest Care Inspectorate Wales review.

She said she was delighted that the inspectors could witness the team’s brilliance and the effort they invest in Gibraltar.

The award was given as part of the home’s standard monthly appreciation programme.

This followed March’s honour, which went to employee Chris, who has worked at the establishment for more than 17 years.

Chris earned the Star of the Month distinction for her years of dedication and the care she provides to those living there, whom the home calls family members.

Following Chris’s award ceremony, colleagues revealed they would also be presenting Verity with an extra, surprise honour to recognise her management.

She was presented with flowers and a document signed by her fellow staff members.

The CIW inspection report highlighted the home’s strong collaborative spirit and encouraging atmosphere, awarding Gibraltar Nursing Home top marks across all areas, including personal wellbeing, care services, premises, and management.

Examiners observed informal and genuine exchanges throughout the building, noting that connections between workers and residents were friendly and dignified.

Relatives shared their gratitude for the employees, with one family member commenting that every member of staff is willing to do whatever is needed to assist.

Another family member observed that all workers are willing to lend a hand.

Those living at the home were seen making their own choices about food and daily activities, with inspectors praising the home’s commitment to enabling individuals to enjoy rich and purposeful existences.
