A charity dog walk covering two miles will be held.
The initiative called Walkies for Autism will support the ASC Centre at Risca Comprehensive School and wind through Cwmcarn Forest.
The goal is to raise awareness and obtain funding for young people on the autism spectrum.
Deb Howells, the centre’s senior teacher, explained that last year’s effort directed money toward extending the allotment, which allowed them to grow more produce. They transformed their harvest into chutneys and jams. This year’s donations will enable them to focus on upgrading their wellbeing area for the Emotional Literacy Support Area programme.
Participants will gather at 10am on Sunday, April 26, at the Cwmcarn Forest car park. The walk should last approximately 45 minutes, and those taking part can stay for food and drink at Raven Café afterwards.
The ASC Centre supports secondary school students aged 11 to 16 within a mainstream educational setting. Youngsters collaborate with key workers to attend regular lessons while using the centre to develop academic, social, and practical abilities.
Previous events have financed projects including the centre’s allotment and sensory garden, helping students build confidence and hands-on experience. Donations have also provided equipment and resources for the sensory garden and other experiential learning activities.
Martin Hulland, headteacher at Risca Comprehensive School, said he was delighted this event had returned to the school’s 2026 calendar. It consistently draws strong participation, and he expected the same this year. He thanked those organising the event and everyone taking part.
Those interested can register by emailing taffyterrier@gmail.com. Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/f/walkies-for-autism-2026, and further information about the forest is available at www.cwmcarnforest.co.uk.
