Newport neighbors question speeding dangers on their street

Published on

The driver (as reported in the Argus on 11.4.26) who was detected traveling above the 20mph limit was likely operating on a neighborhood street.

Might this have served as a neighborhood pathway leading to an educational institution? Approximately eight years prior, Newport Council approved construction of a junior school on Glebelands Park, with Bank Street in St. Julians, Newport functioning as the primary entry point from Caerleon Road. The sole indicator for drivers was a roadside sign displaying “your speed.”

Given the growth in traffic from the school and other sources, what measures are in place to manage traffic flow and protect safety for all residents, including children exposed to emissions, as well as pedestrians forced to navigate this residential area?

Sincerely,

Brian John Donovan
