Nationwide reading challenge calls for millions of participants

A countrywide reading celebration is calling on millions to take part.

The National Year of Reading is supporting World Book Night’s on April 23, prompting people throughout the nation to read for a single hour between 7pm and 8pm.

World Book Night, observed on Shakespeare’s birthday and coinciding with UNESCO International Day of the Book, seeks to cultivate enthusiasm for reading, particularly among individuals who lack easy access to books.

The celebration features programming at libraries and community centers, along with an After Hours, Between the Pages gathering at Merthyr Central Library.

Quick Reads backs World Book Night, providing brief, user-friendly volumes written by popular authors.

Now in its sixth iteration, welcomes participants to engage with any book, in any format, in any location, for one dedicated hour.

This year, Quick Reads has partnered with Spotify to offer complimentary audiobooks for World Book Night.

Premium Spotify subscribers gain access to 15 hours of complimentary audiobooks from a collection exceeding 700,000 titles.

The National Year of Reading, an initiative designed to present reading as a current and communal pursuit, is collaborating with to showcase various participation methods.

Ambassadors representing the National Year of Reading will also engage by posting their reading selections on social platforms.
