The Socialist Party will field candidates in next month’s Senedd election as members of the Welsh Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, using the TUSC Cymru designation on ballot papers.
Their election platform calls for publicly-owned services under democratic control, opportunities for young people free from student debt, military conflicts, and climate destruction, alongside collective efforts on jobs, accommodation, and state-funded amenities to combat prejudice and societal inequality.
A party representative indicated that rather than merely lobbying elected politicians, the organized workforce – primarily through trade unions but also through community-based campaigns, residents’ organisations, and similar bodies – should secure direct representation in a new workers’ formation. The Labour party has unfortunately not fulfilled this role, they added.
TUSC Cymru campaign materials outline their dedication to fighting all reductions and closures impacting public services, job availability, remuneration, and employment terms.
The grouping is simultaneously pushing for creation of an extensive workers’ party that would bring together trade unions, community organisations, tenant associations, and campaign groups.
Five nominees have been selected across two electoral regions:
Gŵyr Abertawe will feature candidates Ben Golightly and Mark Evans.
Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf includes John Williams, Helen Perriam, and Dave Bartlett on the ballot.
Every candidate has pledged that, should they secure election, they will refuse the complete £76,380 Senedd member salary and instead accept only a basic worker’s rate.
