The following planning applications have been received by Newport City Council for the areas of Caerleon, Castleton, and Newport.
Redevelopment plans have been put forward for a property in Robinwood, Belmont Hill, Caerleon.
The application involves removing a current two-storey annex situated to the north of the main building and constructing a new two-storey structure partially positioned below ground level in its place.
The lower level would accommodate vehicle parking and bedroom facilities, while the upper level would provide residential living areas.
The developer has also abandoned previous proposals for a garage on the southern edge of the property in favour of a marginally larger garage in approximately the same location.
The new garage would include storage and workshop facilities in the roof space, lit by front and rear roof slopes.
The scheme also includes single and two-storey extensions to the rear of the main house, similar to what has previously received approval.
A pool house that had previously received approval on the eastern side of the property is also being removed from the plans.
An application has been made to construct a new standalone house on Mill Lane in Castleton.
The plans involve a dwelling with an attached garage and related work on land next to Mill House.
The proposal seeks to retain the semi-rural nature of the area, with the new house set back from the road to protect the green environment along Mill Lane.
The dwelling has been sited to limit interference with existing trees and hedgerows, and the internal arrangement has been designed to make the most of natural light and views for future occupants.
Materials have been selected to harmonise with nearby buildings.
The property will have artificial slate roofing, smooth white render with cast stone and brickwork features, and windows in a traditional style.
A new driveway access would be positioned next to the existing access on the eastern boundary, limiting disturbance to the hedgerow and street appearance.
An application has been submitted to satisfy six planning conditions partially for flood defence work at Broadway Farm in Caerleon.
The conditions are linked to a development previously approved under reference 24/0635.
The work involves improving and maintaining a flood defence embankment and farm track.
Some of the work has already been carried out.
The conditions address archaeological investigations, the construction traffic management plan, environmental management, unsuitable materials, planting schemes, and improvements for wildlife.
The submission seeks to show that these requirements have been met.
Plans have been submitted to establish two raised parking spaces with a reduced kerb height at 1 Oakfield Gardens in Newport.
The proposal involves converting an existing front garden into a hard surface for vehicles.
Newport City Council’s countryside and conservation team has raised objections, citing visual and environmental issues.
In their response, the department stated the proposal would eliminate an ‘attractive frontage’ and damage the character of The Shrubbery Conservation Area.
The response also highlighted that two neighbouring trees would be affected because the proposed parking area would be close to their root systems.
The council expressed concern about the lack of specification for hard landscaping materials and the absence of any compensatory planting.
The proposals would adversely affect this designated suburban landscape character.
