Village Post Office Vows to Stay Despite Closure Announcement

Published on

The Post Office will continue serving Caerphilly residents even after the existing branch closes, officials have indicated.

Following urgent talks with Post Office representatives, local Member of Parliament Chris Evans and Council Leader Jamie Pritchard have welcomed the commitment.

The TG Jones branch is set to shut its doors on July 18, but bosses have confirmed a replacement service will open once suitable premises and a suitable operator have been found.

Mr Evans said the closure of this particular branch was disappointing, but welcomed news that another would be opening soon. He noted these facilities were vital for local communities and pledged to work closely with the Post Office and council to secure new premises quickly.

A job listing for those wishing to operate the new branch has already appeared on the Post Office website.

Cllr Pritchard said he was pleased by the positive news that the Post Office intends to open a replacement in Caerphilly town centre once an operator and premises have been confirmed. He added that the council would stay in close contact with the Post Office to ensure the process moves forward swiftly while minimising disruption to residents.

Work is currently being done to find both a new operator and appropriate premises.
