Police launch investigation after road incident, two people detained

Published on

Two people have been arrested after an incident led officers to seal off a street in Barry and bring in forensic specialists.

Emergency services responded to Park Road near Romilly Park at around 10:30pm on Monday, April 13, after being told someone had been assaulted.

Major road barriers have been set up, blocking traffic flow between Porth-Y-Castell and Porthkerry Park while also restricting access to the park itself.

South Wales Police has revealed that two males—an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old—have been arrested in connection with this incident and remain in custody while enquiries continue. The pair were detained in Cardiff’s Roath area at approximately 11pm on Monday night, and officers have seized a car as part of their investigation. Various items have also been collected from the Park Road scene for laboratory examination.

Throughout Tuesday, a significant police operation has remained in the area, with detectives and forensic experts working within the restricted perimeter. Local residents have noticed many patrol vehicles and crime scene investigators dressed in white protective clothing carrying out detailed searches along the road and the nearby park grounds.

The road remains closed in both directions with diversions signposted for drivers, and officers are advising motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. South Wales Police has thanked community members for their patience and cooperation as officers continue their work.

Officials have indicated that although early reports mentioned an assault, no victim has been identified so far and checks with local hospitals are being conducted. The force is asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the Park Road or Romilly Park area on Monday night to get in touch.

Those with pertinent information are asked to contact South Wales Police using reference 2600113574, either via the force website, by calling 101, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Call 999 only for genuine emergencies.
