A man aged 59 was pronounced dead after emergency services located him without vital signs at his residence, where he had remained for roughly four days.

Darren William Pocknell, who resided at Dol Y Eos in Caerphilly, was discovered unconscious at his property on March 13 2026. Paramedics transported him to the Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran where medical staff attempted to revive him.

Gwent Area Coroner Rose Farmer convened the formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing on Friday, April 10.

Medical documentation submitted to the court revealed that Mr Pocknell had been diagnosed with circulatory system disease. Court proceedings were informed that his clinical state deteriorated during his hospital stay.

The coroner stated that the investigation has been formally initiated and that investigators are examining whether personal neglect contributed to the outcome.

Hospital records additionally confirmed that Mr Pocknell had been managing diabetes and blood flow complications.

Proceedings have been postponed to enable further investigation to be completed, with the hearing due to resume on December 2 at 10am.
