An 82-year-old woman was targeted in a planned fire attack by an organized group.
Four men from Weston-super-Mare have been jailed after setting fire to the elderly victim’s home in Ferndale in what officers described as a revenge operation.
Auryn Gustur, 19, Connor Pitt, 24, Alfie Wheeler, 19, and Lewis Manito, 33, set fire to the property on Protheroe Street during the night into the early hours of July 28, 2025.
Detective Inspector Owain Morrison, who supervised the inquiry, said the elderly woman was deliberately targeted in her home by criminals acting on orders from a senior figure because of money owed by one of her relatives.
He added that the woman herself bore no blame whatsoever.
The four men carried out the fire at the behest of a criminal network based overseas.
Gustur and Wheeler made their way to South Wales driving a Seat Ibiza, with Storm Truman, 19, behind the wheel.
Once there, they teamed up with Pitt, who had travelled to the location independently with Manito.
The group used containers filled with petrol to start the fire.
Footage captured Wheeler and Pitt approaching the house carrying the containers, while Gustur broadcast the attack live through his smartphone.
The victim, who was lying on the ground level, awoke to the sound of glass breaking and could be heard calling out as the fire grew.
With help from local residents and officers, she escaped without injury.
The blaze caused roughly £650,000 in damage across three homes, their contents, and a vehicle.
Emergency services were alerted at 01:25, and all four suspects were taken into custody by 01:50.
Gustur received a term of 15-and-a-half years after admitting arson with intent to endanger life.
Pitt was sentenced to 18 years for the same charge.
Wheeler was jailed for 13 years having pleaded guilty to arson with intent and possessing a knife.
Manito was given a nine-year sentence for reckless arson endangering life and perverting the course of justice.
Storm Truman was found not guilty of arson.
