A local neighbourhood is coming together to back a toddler battling cancer through a round-the-clock athletic fundraiser.
Two-year-old Teddy Sloman has recently been found to have neuroblastoma, an uncommon and fast-spreading cancer.
He has been receiving care at Noah’s Ark Children’s Unit at Heath Hospital for the past nine months.
During this time, his younger sibling Joey has been living with family members.
Despite enduring considerable hardship, Teddy and his relatives have demonstrated remarkable strength, motivating their community to unite in backing them.
The 24-hour Hyrox Challenge is being arranged by Jason Tovey, who plays for Abercarn Rugby club, alongside his companion Jack Davies, working alongside Elite Fitness in Blackwood.
The activity begins at midday on Friday, May 1, and throughout the full 24 hours, participants will rotate between running, rowing, skiing, lifting, shoving, and dragging exercises to show Teddy and his family they have a vast network of people behind them.
Those wishing to take part or demonstrate solidarity can do so by paying a £5 participation fee, with every penny collected going straight to Teddy and his relatives.
Tovey and Davies will complete the opening and closing sessions together, while additional participants will step in at various points to partner up for the intermediate exercises.
The planners will provide sustenance and drinks along with entertainment to maintain stamina and spirits throughout the occasion.
A dedicated GoFundMe page also exists for those preferring to give financially, and the planners emphasised that ‘the most important thing [they] need is support and donations.
