Local Indian Takeaway Named Easter Curry Champion

Published on

A curry house in Monmouth has been named the town’s top takeaway option, providing an excellent choice for the Easter weekend.

Indian Summer, based in Monmouth, received the ‘Best Takeaway in Monmouth’ accolade from Restaurant Guru in April 2025.

The venue, which first opened its doors in 1999, has served the local community for 27 years.

Following the announcement, an Indian Summer spokesperson said the team was thrilled to announce that Indian Summer Monmouth had recently received the ‘Best Takeaway in Monmouth’ award from Restaurant Guru. They expressed their delight at obtaining this honour so early in 2025. Reviews on Facebook, Google, TripAdvisor and JustEat reflected the standard of their service.

After securing this honour, the restaurant disclosed plans to supply hot food to the Monmouth & District Foodbank.

The venue provided meals for approximately 50 people at a gathering held last May.

The spokesperson stated that Indian Summer had always incorporated charitable work and took satisfaction in supporting local causes. They were especially active throughout the pandemic, delivering food to elderly, vulnerable and isolated community members.

The Monmouth & District Foodbank, run entirely by volunteers, supports people dealing with crisis situations.

During 2024, the charity supplied emergency food parcels to more than 1,000 individuals, including over 300 children.

The group also partners with the Community Hub, Mind, Monmouth Housing Association, and Christians Against Poverty to offer advice and financial guidance to those experiencing difficulty.

They depend entirely on food and financial donations from local residents but have seen a 30 percent drop in food donations over the last two years.

A food bank spokesperson said Monmouth needs a food bank because local people cannot afford to pay for essentials and food. Parents often go without eating so their children have meals. Fourteen million people in the UK live below the poverty line. People in Monmouth & District are going hungry right now.

The food bank operates within a national network supported by the Trussell Trust, which tackles poverty and hunger across the UK, helping groups such as single parents, those who have lost their jobs, families on benefits who have no money left, and pensioners whose retirement income no longer covers their needs.

Indian Summer is open from 5pm until 10.30pm on Saturday April 4 and from 5pm until 10pm on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
