Countryside owner wins national prize after launching holiday lets

A farming business owner from Cardiff has received honours through a distinguished UK awards programme after launching a holiday accommodation venture.

The Old Well Bungalow situated at Ty Mawr, a working agricultural holding in Marshfield, featured in Sykes Holiday Cottages’ Stars Awards, which celebrates accommodation providers that have repeatedly earned excellent reviews from visitors throughout the previous year.

Theresa Drew, proprietor of the farm, commenced hosting guests at The Old Well Bungalow in 2024 following her nephew’s relocation to Australia, as he had previously occupied the property. Rather than leaving the residence unoccupied, Drew began accepting holiday visitors, establishing a supplementary revenue source to assist with farm operational expenses.

Drew expressed her delight at receiving Sykes Star recognition, noting that being available to help visitors with any requirements matters greatly to her, and that it is gratifying to learn guests value the effort involved. She added that managing a holiday let proves deeply satisfying and that she enjoys welcoming people and observing them create cherished experiences in Cardiff.

James Shaw, the chief commercial officer at Sykes Holiday Cottages, stated that the Sykes Stars awards highlight property owners who exceed expectations to provide exceptional staycation experiences for their visitors.

Patrons of The Old Well Bungalow frequently mention appreciation for the tranquil location, pristine presentation, and the approachable equine resident that frequently approaches the fence to greet visitors.

Shaw observed that Theresa’s achievement illustrates how those operating farms can secure an additional income stream through branching into holiday accommodation while simultaneously presenting visitors with genuine countryside experiences.
