Rail passengers face disruption as morning services cancelled

Published on

Train services to Newport and several other stations were cancelled this morning, leading to significant delays for commuters on April 2, 2026.

Reports of the service cancellations on routes to and from Newport began appearing at approximately 8am. Both the line connecting Newport with Ebbw Vale and the route linking Newport with Chepstow experienced disruptions.

Transport for Wales expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to travellers and indicated that normal services would be restored by approximately 10am.

Passengers travelling from Ebbw Vale were informed that replacement bus services would be provided where feasible to complete their journeys at no additional charge.

Stagecoach South Wales Route 56 operates between Newport and Crosskeys via Rogerstone and Pontymister. Route X15 travels between Newport and Llanhilleth via Rogerstone, Crosskeys and Newbridge. Route 151 connects Newport and Newbridge via Pye Corner, Rogerstone, Pontymister, Risca and Crosskeys.

National Rail explained that an unusually high number of trains required simultaneous repairs, which would impact services between Newport (South Wales) and Ebbw Vale Town. Consequently, a reduced timetable was in place between these stations.
