Book chronicles girl’s dramatic flight to safety in Rwanda

Published on

A newly released memoir follows a woman’s journey as a child crossing into Rwanda.

The Brave Girl Within Me follows Emertha Uwanyirigira’s formative years and her extraordinary search for her father across the Rwandan frontier, beginning with a mortifying incident she encountered during her school days.

When a teacher labelled her father a rebel, she made the decision to run away from class and search for him.

She recounted that she was merely a child at the time, with no comprehension of warfare or what perils might lie ahead. Her sole motivation was an overwhelming resolve to find her dear father.

Ms Uwanyirigira succeeded in boarding a vehicle headed toward Rwanda, hiding herself among unfamiliar faces, fueled by the hope of reuniting with her parent.

She noted that she climbed onto a truck bound for Rwanda without knowing anyone there, and no one challenged her background.

Even though her quest concluded otherwise than she had envisioned, her inner resilience carried her through the subsequent years.

From her home in Wales, she finally attained the peace required to tell her story.

She observed that Cardiff granted her calmness, offering the chance to stop, consider, and commit to paper everything she had harboured for so many years.

Those wishing to purchase The Brave Girl Within Me can acquire it via Ms Uwanyirigira’s official website.
