A teacher at a primary school who was convicted by a jury of sexual offences against a child has received his sentence at Cardiff Crown Court.
Johnathan Morgan, 35, who resides on Conway Road in Newport, transmitted videos of himself engaged in sexual activities to a girl.
He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, with the term suspended for 21 months.
The accused was found guilty of three charges of forcing a child between 13 and 17 years old to observe a sexual act.
The court was told the crimes took place in December 2023.
Morgan had contested the accusations.
The jury acquitted him of sexual assault and of causing a girl aged 13 or older to participate in a non-penetrative sexual activity.
Morgan was instructed to perform 200 hours of community service and complete a rehabilitation programme lasting 10 days.
He must register as a sex offender for a decade.
Additionally, he is subject to a permanent restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim and was fined £187.
Morgan had previously been convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol in Newport in March 2023.
He was disqualified from driving for 14 months after his vehicle collided with railings at Eveswell Primary School in the city.
At Newport Magistrates’ Court, it was disclosed that he was acquainted with snooker star Ronnie O’Sullivan and would accompany him for runs during visits to Wales.
Morgan admitted guilt to drink-driving, having 47 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
The maximum permitted level is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres.
Oliver Jenkins, representing Morgan, stated that his client had been driving following a dispute with his partner regarding his late arrival home from a Newport County AFC fixture.
His barrister described the driving as a serious misjudgment and explained Morgan had intended to rest in his vehicle in a nearby park.
He noted Morgan had previously maintained good character but had lost that status following the conviction.
The court heard Morgan experienced torment during his time as a track athlete specialising in middle-distance events.
Morgan plays in a musical group and contributes to charitable initiatives raising awareness about bullying in schools, as well as working with the organisation Kidscape.
Mr Jenkins said Morgan possesses a reference from Ronnie O’Sullivan and runs with him during visits to Wales to help him avoid media attention.
The defendant feels considerable shame about appearing in court, according to his lawyer, who added that although the proceedings have been humiliating, Morgan acknowledges responsibility for his circumstances.
Mr Jenkins further mentioned Morgan would need to travel by bicycle to maintain his teaching position.
