Caerphilly school pupils celebrate football championship victory

Students from secondary schools across Caerphilly secured championship titles at the annual schools football finals event.

The tournament, arranged by Sport Caerphilly, operated as an elimination-style competition throughout the academic year, culminating in a thrilling showcase featuring the most skilled players from boys’ squads in Years 7 through 11, alongside girls’ sides at Under 13 and Under 15 levels.

The fixtures took place across a two-day period, with competitors displaying impressive technical ability, collaborative play, and resolve.

Match official Paul Greenway earned recognition for maintaining a fair and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the contest.

This season’s victors were: Year 7 Boys’ category – Gellihaf (Cwm Rhymni); Year 8 Boys’ division – Bedwas High School; Year 9 Boys’ bracket – St Cenydd Community School; Year 10 Boys’ section – Newbridge School; Year 11 Boys’ class – Lewis School Pengam.

In the girls’ standings, Islwyn High School claimed the Under 13 title while Idris Davies School secured victory in the Under 15 category.

The finals offered young sportspeople a valuable opportunity to wear their school colours, engage in spirited competition, and share in their accomplishments alongside classmates and supporters.

Sport Caerphilly maintains its commitment to school athletics throughout the borough, expanding access for young individuals to participate in local sporting activities in accordance with the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy covering the period from 2019 to 2029.
