Twelve-year-old detained alongside pair over school bomb threat hoaxes

Published on

Three individuals, including a 12-year-old child, have been taken into custody following false bomb alerts targeting secondary schools in the Welsh capital.

The detentions are linked to an inquiry into threats issued between March 15 and 18, 2026.

The suspects include a woman aged 44, a man aged 47 and the juvenile, all hailing from Birmingham. They have been detained on suspicion of making bomb hoaxes under the Criminal Law Act 1977.

All three remain in custody with police.

Assistant Chief Constable Thomas Williams stated that the force was aware of the significant worry this matter had caused for parents and local residents. He emphasised that such reports were treated with the utmost gravity while enquiries continued. He also sought to assure families that investigators had found no indication of anyone posing an actual danger to the schools involved. He added that officers were maintaining close cooperation with partner agencies and expressed gratitude for the backing and patience shown by schools, families and the broader community.
