Government commits three years of funding to Welsh housing charity

Published on

A Welsh housing charity has obtained an additional three years of government financial support to carry on with its essential work preventing homelessness.

Shelter Cymru will maintain its all-Wales homelessness guidance service thanks to backing from the Welsh Government’s homelessness prevention grant, which has been prolonged to fund its activities through to 2029 at minimum.

Jayne Bryant MS, the cabinet secretary responsible for housing and local government, toured the charity’s freshly opened Swansea headquarters on Thursday 26 March.

Shelter Cymru’s chief executive Ruth Power commented that it was wonderful to host the cabinet secretary at their offices and express gratitude for the sustained commitment shown by her and the Welsh Government.

She noted that this assistance permits them to support tens of thousands of individuals throughout Wales annually.

During the tour, Ms Bryant accompanied the Shelter Cymru Live team and spoke with employees providing face-to-face guidance in Swansea.

She remarked that visiting Shelter Cymru’s new Swansea headquarters provided an opportunity to observe directly the commitment and care demonstrated by staff working relentlessly to prevent and address homelessness throughout Wales.

Shelter Cymru has functioned in Wales for 45 years and moved recently to new premises in Swansea.
